Ethier's blast lifts Dodgers over Cubs
Baseball Betting Lines
09/06/2007 -
Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Andre Ethier's three-run pinch-hit homer in
the ninth gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a dramatic 7-4 win over the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a four-game set at historic Wrigley Field.
Russell Martin led off the ninth with a single to right and James Loney
followed with an infield single. Ethier then crushed an 0-1 pitch off Ryan
Dempster (2-5) over the left center field fence. A wild pitch with two outs
allowed another run to score giving the Dodgers a 7-4 lead.
Takashi Saito retired the Cubs in order in the home half of the ninth for his
37th save in 40 chances. Joe Beimel (4-1) earned the win throwing 1 2/3
innings of shutout ball and starter Derek Lowe went six-plus innings allowing
three runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Loney and Matt Kemp also homered for the Dodgers, who have won four of five
and pulled within 3 1/2 games of NL-West leading Arizona.
Alfonso Soriano homered twice for the Cubs, who have lost three of four and
fell into a first-place tie with idle Milwaukee in the NL Central.
Chicago starter Jason Marquis yielded two runs on four hits, while walking one
and striking out four over seven innings.
Soriano led off the first with a homer into the bleachers in left, his
seventh lead-off homer this season and 39th of his career.
Loney tied the game in the fifth with a two-out solo shot to right, his
seventh home run of the year.
The Dodgers briefly went ahead in the top of the seventh. With one out Martin
singled to left and Loney followed with an RBI double to center.
Soriano, though, put the Cubs back on top 4-2 in the bottom half. Mike
Fontenot led off with a single to center and pinch-hitter Cliff Floyd walked
chasing Lowe. Jonathon Broxton entered and surrendered a three-run homer to
left by Soriano, his 22nd of the campaign.
Kemp's two-out solo homer to center in the eighth, his 10th of the year,
pulled Los Angeles within 4-3.

Michael Vick is back, Brett Favre isn't and the NFC East remains the best division in the NFC, maybe in all of football.
As players start to gather for the start of another season, some things change and some stay the same in the world of the NFL.
Bet 2010 Super Bowl Odds
The NFC East has been the dominant division in the National Conference for a while, despite limited playoff success, save for the New York Giants surprise Super Bowl win two seasons ago.
Hell, there's a generation of kids in Texas who have never seen the Cowboys win a playoff game (last win was in 1996).
But collectively, the Giants, Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins (well, maybe not so much the Redskins) are as good as a division gets in an NFC conference that has struggled to stay competitive with the AFC side.
Sports bettors have both acknowledged the NFC East's dominance, as one glance at the NFL future odds menu will show.
Looking over the NFL betting odds at online sports book MySportsbook.com we see the top three teams listed to win the NFC Championship are all from the NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys - 7 - 1
Philadelphia Eagles - 13 - 2
New York Giants - 9 - 2
Slotting in behind these three are two teams from the NFC North: the Minnesota Vikings (15-2) and the Chicago Bears (10-1).
Again, despite the lack of recent playoff success, the Dallas Cowboys are popular with the sports betting community, as they hold 14% of all the money wagered on who will win the NFC Championship.
So far, the New York Giants are the bettors' favorite to represent their conference in the Super Bowl, as they have 24% of the overall NFC Championship betting volume.
And what about the Philadelphia Eagles? For the most part, the Eagles had a very productive offseason, the kind that could bring them back to the top.
They had a good draft adding the likes of WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy.
Unfortunately, the team received a blow when long-time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away on Tuesday.
But this team will make a real run at the division title this year. Going into the regular season, Philly is listed at +240 to win the division.
Last season the Eagles were 9-6-1 SU and 10-6 ATS.
Teams from the NFC East will play teams from the AFC West in the regular season and the Eagles haven't really been a good bet in the last 20 games against the likes of San Diego, Oakland, K.C. and Denver, only going 8-12 ATS.
Two seasons removed from that Super Bowl title, the New York Giants see themselves listed as the odds-on favorite in NFC East championship futures at +162.
Plaxico Burress is gone and with him all the bad publicity surrounding the gun in the sweatpants incident, but can they replace him in the offense?
Last season the Giants were a very reliable bet going 12-4 ATS.
In the Giants' last 20 games against fellow teams from the NFC East; they are 13-7 ATS.
Dallas is listed at +240 to win the division.
Dallas went 9-7 SU and 7-9 ATS last season and with the amount of talent the Cowboys have, a similar performance won't do.
The Cowboys have been atrocious against divisional rivals, going 6-14 ATS in their last 20.
The Washington Redskins are longshots to win the division at +550.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets
With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
